They say you have to spend money to make money, but when you’re the chief of everything in business it can be very tempting to cut corners in order to minimise expenses.
As a seasoned Marketing Consultant, I thought I would share with you the top six excuses business owners make when they decide not to hire help when it comes to their marketing:
1. I don’t trust anyone else marketing my business
It’s natural to be protective of your work (and business), however a marketing expert (marketing agency) is able to look at your business with a fresh perspective and an expert set of eyes which can prove to be extremely beneficial if you’ll allow it. You can be there every step of the way and at the end of the day the big decisions are ultimately yours.
2. I can’t afford it
Many companies will tailor their services to meet your budget expectations. At the end of the day, if your business does not profit from their help, it reflects badly upon them and no reputable consultant will leave you high and dry.
3. I don’t need pushy advertising because my business speaks for itself
Even if your business sells itself, it will be difficult for your target audience to buy from you if they have never heard of you. A marketing consultant will ensure your unique business receives the public awareness it deserves.
4. Why hire outside help when I can just marketing the business myself
Hiring a marketing consultant ensures someone is completely devoted to the very important task of marketing and advertising. Savvy consumers can spot homegrown marketing and this alone could leave them questioning your credibility and whether you are serious or not. If you want to appear professional, hire a professional.
5. Directing and dealing with a marketing consultant is as time-consuming as doing the job myself
The beauty of a marketing consultant is that you can have as much or as little involvement with the process as you’d like. You set the agenda and expectations. By managing the process and working with the right person, it will take you much less time than the DIY approach.
6. An outsider won’t understand my business like I do
This is probably true but your understanding of your business may not translate into successful marketing. Sometimes the more fully we understand something, the harder it becomes for us to explain it. A marketing consultant will take your knowledge of the business and make it easy for the greater public to instantly understand and appreciate.
