Are you trying to desperately hold onto your beautiful Valentine’s Day flowers just a few more days, thinking that water and a few under-your-breath words of encouragement might help revive them? If so, you’re in denial, holding onto something that is withering away and shedding its crinkly, blackened pedals all over the place.
And the same holds true for old, faded marketing materials. If they’re not fresh and effective, stop trying to pray that they’ll get the job done. Instead, develop fresh marketing materials that you will dedicate your time to nurturing.
Once you start forgetting about your marketing materials and marketing plan, they become difficult to revive. However, if you keep up a steady marketing plan with fresh marketing materials, your plan and materials will begin to evolve and transform into a more effective strategy, changing with technology and your customers’ needs. When you neglect your marketing pieces and plan for several months and then try going back to it, you’re right back at square one. And what might have worked a few months ago doesn’t hold true today.
Here are a few things you can do TODAY to spice up your marketing materials and plan:
1. Implement the famous motto, “Out with the old, in with the new”: Look through all of your marketing materials, including your brochures, website, blog, and social media accounts. What’s working? What isn’t working? Create a spreadsheet that outlines effective marketing materials and noneffective ones. Continue to focus on efforts that have been working, and eliminate those that have not been working from your marketing plan.
2.Research new marketing channels and materials: Are there any new Facebook or Twitter features that have just launched? Instead of sifting through loads of online material, visit the Facebook Blog and Twitter Blog once a week to see if there have been any new additions or changes.
Also, keep an eye on marketing blogs to see what the growing trends are in business marketing. Great marketing blogs stay on top of the industry and inform readers about new and changing marketing materials and channels.
3. Reevaluate your website and blog design: Have you had the same exact website and blog design now for nearly two years? If so, consider updating these platforms with fresh elements that encourage users to engage with your brand. A website or blog that collects cobwebs isn’t going to attract new customers. Your marketing materials need to evolve with your brand. Whether it’s revamping your entire website or adding a few new design elements to your blog sidebar, making changes here and there will illustrate that your brand is fresh and stays up-to-date.
4. Analyze your marketing copy: If your marketing copy isn’t consistent throughout all of your marketing materials and elements aren’t in line with your brand message, you definitely want to consider having your marketing copy redone so that you consistently project a compelling marketing message. When analyzing your copy, look at your website, blog, social media platforms, and print collateral. Note areas that are not accurate and that are not in line with your brand message.
