The time is now! Get started and change your life! Lose weight by eating better and exercising regularly. You don’t have to starve yourself or run a marathon to improve your well being or maintain weight loss. In fact throw the scales away as they just cloud your judgement. Muscle weighs heavier than fat, so you can lose the inches but your weight may not change a great deal. Relying on scales is more likely to have a negative effect as you are tempted to not eat properly or over exercise if you cannot see substantial short term weight loss.

The current state of your body will obviously determine what you need to do or are what you are capable of doing. If you are well overweight you must start gently. Obviously you must try to follow a more balanced diet. Eat smaller portions more often rather than “pigging out”. Reduce foods that are high in fat or sugar such as biscuits, chocolate, Pastries etc. Make sure that you get plenty fruit and vegetables and cut down on alcohol. You can eat far more of the correct foods to “fill you up”, which will be much better in your attempts to lose weight and at the same time get the proper nutrients to your body which help it run smoothly.

Once you have been sensible with your food intake the next step is to exercise regularly. I would suggest around 5 times a week. If you haven’t exercised for some time start off gently. It may be an idea to warm up first with a few gentle stretches etc. to get the blood circulating. To begin with just do what you are comfortable with. Do not try too much as the last thing you want is pulled muscles, which will halt your progress. Even brisk walking is sufficient to increase your heart rate. A nice stroll in the countryside is great with the added benefit of some fresh air for your lungs. Cycling and swimming are also very good forms of exercise. If you vary the exercise you are more likely to continue with an exercise program. If you feel lonely trying to improve your health and fitness, ask a friend or relatives if they would like to join you. You would be amazed at how many people just need a bit of moral support to either start or continue with an exercise program and enjoy it much more with someone by their side.

As you’re your body becomes more toned, you will find that you do not put the inches back on so easily as the exercise will have increased your metabolic rate. Increasing your metabolic rate is the key to keeping the weight off. The main thing is that if you eat sensibly and get a reasonable amount of aerobic and cardio exercise you will not only improve your health and fitness, but add years on to your life. So, come on and get into gear!
