One of the wisest things I’ve ever heard about Internet marketing is that you need to fail until you fail to fail. In other words, you may have a number of failures in Internet marketing before you fail to fail – or succeed.

If you’ve become stuck

It’s easy to become stuck in Internet marketing. This is where you create a website, populate it with good content, add products or ads, then see that nothing much happens. You get a trickle of traffic and earn some money but certainly not as much as you had expected. If this sounds familiar, here are some advanced techniques you can use so you can stop failing to fail.

Get more traffic

Traffic is to your website as blood is to your brain. If you don’t get a sufficient amount of traffic, your website will basically die just as your brain will die if it doesn’t get enough blood. So what can you do to get more traffic?

First, you could buy it. Google offers pay-per-click advertising and Facebook has ads based on impressions. Pay-per-click advertising is just that. You create an ad, Google places it on relevant sites and you pay when someone clicks on it and goes to your website. This can be an especially good way to get traffic for CPA (click per action) offers or to just generate traffic very quickly.

Facebook advertising is based on impressions. You generally pay per 1000 impressions, which means your ad is placed where 1000 people could see it. However, there is no guarantee that people will take action and click on it. But Facebook offers something that Google doesn’t and that’s advertising by demographics. You can target your advertising by age, gender, geographic location, education, work place or by keyword.

Social bookmarking

A second way to generate traffic is through social bookmarking. This is where you go to sites such as Digg, Reddit, StumbleUpon and BuzzFeed and leave the title of your site, along with a brief description and your URL. This will increase your site’s visibility and popularity among people online that use the social bookmarking websites to find new information. It has another benefit in that it automatically creates back links to your site.

Buy back links to increase your site’s ranking

Do you know where your site ranks in Google’s search results for your keyword? If you don’t, you need to find out. To get traffic to your site without paying for it you have to be on Google’s first or second page of results for your keyword. In other words, if your keyword is anti-aging, you site needs to come up somewhere between first and 25th when people search on that term.

To do this, you need for Google to see your site as being important and the easiest way to do this is to get a bunch of back links to it. These are simply links from other sites to yours. You can get them free with social bookmarking and by placing articles in article directories with links back to your site. Or you can buy them. There are numerous sites where you can buy back links but my favorite is Fiverr where you can find people who will create anywhere from 50 to 1,000 back links to your site for just five dollars.

As the old saying goes, Rome wasn’t built in a day. And success in Internet marketing usually doesn’t happen in a day. So if you’re stuck, just hang in there, be patient and the day will come when you’ll fail to fail.
