If you’re reading this article you probably have a website and have already done everything you know to do with basic internet marketing. You now need to learn some advanced internet marketing techniques because your site is not where you want it to be. Even though you did everything you could think of and find online about basic internet marketing, your site is not bringing in enough targeted traffic.
The first thing you need to do is determine who your competitors are for the purpose of the internet. This will probably be different than the competitors you have in the brick and mortar business world, especially if you are a one shop local business. Do a search in Google for your primary keywords. There will be a few sites that are not similar at all to yours, and these should be ignored. Any sites similar to yours that show up before your site in that search is an internet competitor.
Now you need to visit the websites of those competitors and do internet searches for their name. See what advanced internet marketing tactics they are using to promote their sites. You might be able to buy up higher listings in the directories they are using so that you drive them out of the search. If they are not writing articles you can often drive them out by flooding EzineArticles with your articles and your links.
If your internet competitors are national or global and you only do business locally you can change your marketing tactics to only include local marketing. Add your location as a primary keyword to your site and all of your marketing copy, and only use local marketing directories and listings. This way you’re not competing with the big dogs but your customers can still find you.
