Advanced Elements is a popular manufacturer of inflatable kayaks but they also have a great inflatable canoe within their fleet. The Advanced Elements StraitEdge inflatable canoe is ideal for recreational flat water paddling as well as fishing, camping, family fun, and even great for dogs.

This popular canoe has many advantages as well as a few disadvantages. Below I will go through the pros and cons of the StraitEdge as well as my own personal feelings on this inflatable.

Advanced Elements Inflatable Canoe Pros and Cons

Pros: There are lots of different models on the market to choose from but this one has been popular for a few very good reasons. For one thing it is extremely stable and therefore is idea for any person of any age. It is also well made and the material is strong and durable.

Many inflatables do not have good tracking meaning that they tend to sway a bit from side to side while paddling as opposed to going in a straight line. This one however has a very rigid bow and stern which help with good tracking and consequently it takes less effort to get to your destination as well as less time.

The StraitEdge canoe also has moulded rubber handles which make it easy for carrying and has a very quick and easy set-up time (roughly 5 – 8 minutes). It also has two comfortable padded seats that can be adjusted to your needs.

Cons: The cons are that although it can easily seat two people, there is not a lot of extra leg room. Therefore this model is known to be better for people who are up to about six feet in height. Anyone taller will find it to be a very cramped ride.

Also the lack of room means that there is not a lot of extra space for gear and accessories. However that should not deter you if you will mostly be doing day trips or fishing as it is fully capable of being loaded with a couple of dry bags or fishing gear. You might be a little cramped but it is definitely possible. If you want to paddle it solo, then you will have lots of extra room for gear.

The other con is that although this canoe has good tracking, it is not very speedy. If you are not worried about being the fastest self-powered boat out on the water then this will not be an issue but just be aware that it may take a little longer to get to your destination.

My Opinion of the StraitEdge Canoe

This inflatable boat is well priced and an affordable way for many families to get out and enjoy the warmer months on the water. It can hold up to 400 lbs. and weighs 41 lbs. It has a nice design and will not only paddle well but look good out on the water.

It is not the highest quality inflatable on the market but then again it does not have a really high price tag either. It is safe, stable and fun to use and I think with a little care would likely last a very long time.

In order to know if this model is right for you it is wise to read the reviews of a few different inflatable canoes before making your choice and comparing the specs and prices.
