If you are just starting to build your network marketing or MLM business online, you may have heard the term ‘Brand Yourself’. But do you know what that means and why it is so important to your business?
In regards to branding yourself, let’s go through the 5 questions of who, what, when, where & why and by the time you get to the end of this article, you will have a clear understanding of the vital importance of branding yourself, marketing YOU online, and what it will do for your business.
Just so you know, branding yourself has nothing to do with a cattle prod! Just thought I’d be clear on that point from the get-go… LOL!
Who: Brand Yourself – “Who ME?” you say. “I’m just your average person. I’m not a celebrity. How can I present myself as a brand?” But you are a brand. You are a unique individual with a particular kind of personality. You have distinctive strengths and talents no one else has. There’s no one in the world like you. You are your own brand.
Why: Why you should brand yourself. At one point I was in a MLM that appeared to be heading towards nonstop explosive growth. Then overnight, the company decided it was no longer going to be a network marketing company. Because I was new in network marketing, this did not affect me much. But there were people at the top of the organization that had hundreds of people in their downline. When the company closed, it was financially devastating to those people who were promoting that company.
If your brand is your primary company or its products or services – that company or product could change. But if your brand is you – that is unchangeable. When you brand yourself as the one people should follow, if something should happen to your company or product, you’ll be okay because people have joined into your team because of you and not your company. You’ll find another company to join, with hardly a hiccup in your business. Who you are, your reputation, your personality, this is your true brand.
What: The what of branding yourself is what you share with people so they get a connection with you. People join with people, not companies. So what you share about yourself is what’s going to cause people to bond with you. Share about your experiences in building your network marketing business, both good and bad. Share about your family, your work life, your hobbies, etc. Just share who you are.
Do you have a talent for teaching? Then teach people in a clear manner how to market themselves on the internet. If you love humor, then share things on your blog you find that are funny. Make people laugh. Laughter is the best medicine, so dole out the fun stuff on a regular basis and you’ll have people coming back for more. If you can sing, then make some videos of you singing. People will return to your website just to hear your latest song. If you love to inspire people, then put a tab on your website that’s just for inspirational quotes. The world can use a lot more inspiration, so inspire away.
Bottom line: Be yourself. Let your personality shine through your business.
Where: Where will you brand yourself?

· In your voice
· In your videos
· In your e-mail signature
· In your personal profiles
· In your blog or website
· In Twitter
· In Facebook,
· And in YouTube
So be mindful of the pictures you put up, the articles you write, the comments you make, and the videos you post. Be professional in everything you do, as all of these things reveal who you are and therefore become part of your brand.
A very important point to take note of in regards to where to brand yourself; do not use your primary company’s website or their capture pages as the way for your leads subscribe into your list. Because if you do, those leads then belong to your primary company and are not yours. Remember, your income comes from your list, so make sure you are building your list through your marketing funnel. Set up your own self-hosted website with your own opt-in boxes. It’s a little extra work on the front-end, but once it’s set up and running, it goes on autopilot and the rewards belong to you.
When: The when part is easy. You are branding yourself all the time. The tools you choose to recommend, the marketing strategies you choose to utilize and then teach to your leads, the comments you put out there, it’s all part of your personal brand. And that’s happening 24/7.
The bottom line is: YOU are your brand, your brand is not your primary company. People don’t follow companies; they follow people they know and trust. Let people know who you are, by your knowledge, your openness, and your kindness, and your caring and people will follow your brand – because your brand is you.
